Resilient Recovery

Built on The 7 Pillars of Resilience — building a life you don't want to escape from

Most recovery programs focus on what you shouldn't do. Resilient Recovery is a weekly practice for what you should — seven pillars, one day at a time, written from inside our recovery community and shared with Root to Rise so anyone at the table can use it.

It is free. You can start on any day, work through it on your own, or go through it with a peer recovery coach. It complements treatment, meetings, and whatever recovery pathway is yours.

The weekly rhythm

Seven days. One practice. Repeat.

You do not finish this practice. You live it. Miss a day, pick up wherever you are. Day 7 is the review that turns seven ideas into one way of walking through the week.

  1. Day 1 · Vision

Why am I doing this? What kind of life am I trying to build?

Recovery is not only what you leave behind. It is what you are moving toward. Write it down. Keep it where you will see it.

  2. Day 2 · Composure

How do I stay calm when emotions run high?

Feel without handing over the wheel. Four breaths before a word or a decision. That space is the whole skill.

  3. Day 3 · Reasoning

How do I think clearly instead of making emotional decisions?

Do not trust hot thinking. Name the feeling, write the urge, sleep on anything that would change a life.

  4. Day 4 · Tenacity

How do I get back up when I fall?

Falling is guaranteed. Staying down is a choice. One sentence: I fell — but I am not staying down. Then one step.

  5. Day 5 · Collaboration

How do I let others support me instead of struggling alone?

Needing help is not a character flaw. Ask. Tell the truth. Let someone walk with you. Recovery was never a solo sport.

  6. Day 6 · Stewardship

How do I use my time, money, and energy wisely?

Ask what is costing the most stress this month — then spend toward the thing that makes next month quieter.

  7. Day 7 · Integration

How am I doing overall, and where do I need to improve?

A weekly review, not a verdict. What worked. What wobbled. Re-read the vision. Start the cycle again.

“Willpower will get you started. Only resilience will keep you free.”

Resilient Recovery was written by someone who grew up around poverty and addiction and found, in the recovery community, a way to stop running. It is the system they built so other people could stop running too.
